New Delhi - Dull and cold![]() In 2004, I wanted to travel the world and see more places. I found myself in this unique city called Delhi. Delhi is the administrative capital of India. The city is conservative as compared to Bombay. I arrived bound on the train from Kolkata. It was during winter and it was damn cold. I still remember looking for a heavy pullover from my backpack. I stayed in Delhi for two months, working on a project with seven other amazing people from different parts of the world. It is in Delhi that I realized that I could be anything that I want to be. Later in 2004, i visited the city again while working on a road safety project. It was monsoon and was raining heavily. I realized that living in Kenya was living in comfort. In India, monsoon used to leave roads in terrible shape and has to be repaired every year. Delhi skyline is dark and heavy with pollution. During the day, the city looks dull. My life in Delhi was spent with people from upper middle class. I was working as a corporate executive. Unlike Kolkata, I hardly interacted with low income community This gave me a different perspective of this expansive sub continent. |
