Kolkata - Home of Mother TeresaKolkata is a city that i hold dear in my heart. In 2004, i stayed for 5 months in a village (urlon) in West Bengal. Kolkata was the nearest city where i could go once in a while and do some shopping. I still remember Howrah station; where i used to bound my train back to the village. I had a chance of visiting the Bay of Bengal. Awesome sights. Must sees for anyone visiting the west of India. Other places that i remember are Howrah bridge, Nikko park, Sundanbans and Khalighat Kali temple. Kali is the goddess of empowernment. She is the fierce aspect of the goddess Durga (goddess of love and fertility). Most kolkatians worship Kali. I still remember the faces of the noble villagers when i was leaving. Living in Kolkata was a great experience for me. And still i had to bound the Kolkata Mumbai mail train which takes 4 days to get to Mumbai; 4 days and nights in a train with all sought of people hawking different things including chai (tea) and roti. Kolkata, i will come back. Trust me. |
